Just Plain Bill

Now what?

To be completely honest, as much as I’ve tried, I’ve usually failed to be a good loser. So, it’s a challenge for me to move forward as my selection for President of the United States was not elected to serve me and the country I thought I knew.

I know my belief in our system of governance will be sorely tested, not only by the few policies the president-elect has articulated, but also by my vision of what kind of person he is and what type of president he’ll be. For most of my life, perhaps unfairly, I’ve looked to our nation’s leaders as ones who set examples for my children and the children of others. Not sure I can do that for the incoming president, but I can only hope for a miraculous transformation brought about by the magnitude of his position as the “leader” of the free world.

His pronouncements of contempt, of insult, and even hate will remain as suggestions for behavior going forward that will bring a dark cloud to what I’ve seen as “possibilities”, rather than as “problems.”

I know it’s only four years until another presidential election, but that period of time seems like a near eternity related to the impact on my daily life. I can take a bit of solace from the fact that the state in which I live did not provide our president-elect with a plurality, but in reality, that makes my state somewhat of a target of those policies at odds with my liberal and progressive philosophy.

As stated, my beliefs will be sorely tested, and let the rebuilding begin – NOW!
