Just Plain Bill

“Guess” speaker

In my role as a substitute teacher, I usually have a plan of some sort to follow as I teach the class. These plans can be comprehensive, including the minutest details on how the class might have a school day experience that is similar to what they would with their regular teacher.

On other occasions, the plans are of little value, leaving it to me to either depend on the students to lead the day’s activities, or to draw on my years of quality teaching experiences to fashion a day for learning.

The latest handwritten plan, written on the back of a class activity piece of scratch paper, included the following:

2:00 PM Guess (sic) speaker

I guess the teacher meant guest speaker, which, by the way, taught a great interactive lesson on mindfulness.

Once again, I was faced with the temptation to correct the spelling, using a red pen, and returning it to the writer for editing.

What would you do?
